Southern Illinois Miners News Release
Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners and manager Mike Pinto have announced team trainer Chris Stone will be returning in 2013.
Stone is a former Frontier League Trainer of the Year, an honor he achieved in 2008.
"I'm excited to be back", said Stone. "This place is home to me and it was great to finally reach our ultimate goal last year.
I can't wait to get back to work with the guys and continue to build on what we are trying to do here."
Stone, a graduate of ArkansasStateUniversity in 2005 and Southern Illinois University in 2007, has been with the Miners since their inaugural season back in 2007. Stone is provided to the Miners through the Orthopedic Institute of Southern Illinois. With an extensive background in athletic training, Stone has been instrumental in the team's physical well-being and rehabilitation when a player gets hurt. As the team trainer, Stone conducts rehab treatments, leads conditioning and stretching exercises. Another task that Stone fulfills with the team is his continued dialogue with manager Mike Pinto about the team's health status.
"Stoney has been an integral part of our coaching staff since our first season", said manager Mike Pinto. "He is innovative, progressive and always looking to make what he does and we do as a team better. Chris cares about this team, each of our players and their careers. We are so fortunate to have the relationship with Dr.
Davis and the Orthopedic Institute. I would put the medical care that we provide to our players at the highest levels. I am very happy to have Stoney continue to part of our Miners staff and family."
Throughout his tenure with the Miners, Stone has been featured on various media outlets in the Southern Illinois area for his dedication to the team and his innovative progressive training approaches.
The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2012 Frontier League Champions and have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year three times since its inception. It has also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007.
