One Week Until Home Opener; Baseline Experience Offers Best Tennis
July 25, 2016 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Washington Kastles News Release
The Kastles season is just one week away! That means Kastles fans are seven days away from one of the most epic nights in World TeamTennis history. The Kastles line-up features four Olympians, as the Bryan Brothers make their DC debut, joining Kastles veterans Leander Paes and Martina Hingis. In addition, Kastles veterans Sam Querrey, Madison Brengle, and Anastasia Rodionova will suit up for the Kastles as they take on the Springfield Lasers. The Lasers will be looking for revenge, as they have lost to the Kastles three times in the WTT Finals, in 2009, 2013, and 2014. Doubles star Daniel Nestor, who has won eight Grand Slam doubles titles, will renew his rivalry with the Bryan Brothers as the Lasers try to tame the most loaded Kastles squad in history. Nestor has faced the Bryans in three Grand Slam finals, beating them at Wimbledon in 2009 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 and at the French Open in 2012 6-4, 6-4.

Kastles Compete at Rogers Cup in Montreal and Toronto Bryan Brothers, Hingis, Brengle, Querrey Compete at Masters 1000 Event
The prestigious Rogers Cup gets underway this week, as the Kastles players are looking to build some momentum going into the WTT season. The Bryan Brothers, Martina Hingis, Sam Querrey, and Madison Brengle are all competing in the various draws. The Bryan Brothers are the top seeds in the men's doubles draw, and receive a bye into the second round. There they will face the winner of Marcin Matkowski and Max Mirnyi against Lukaz Kubot and Alexander Peya. The Bryans have won the Rogers Cup five times, including last year when they defeated Daniel Nestor (Springfield Lasers) and Edouard Rager-Vasselin 7-6, 3-6, 10-6. Sam Querrey will be looking to build upon a strong June that saw him make his first major quarterfinal at Wimbledon. Querrey will take on Canadian qualifier Frank Dancevic, who will have the support of his home country behind him, in the first round. A potential match-up with world no. 7 David Goffin could await Querrey in the second round. Querrey is also teaming up with Swede Robert Lindstedt in the men's doubles draw. In the first round, the duo takes on John Isner (Springfield Lasers) and rising star Alexander Zverev. Madison Brengle faces a tough first round test in the women's singles draw, as she takes on world no. 30 Ekaterina Makanrova, who just missed out on a seeded position in the draw. A potential match-up with fellow American Madison Keys is a possibility in the second round. Martina Hingis returns to the court for the first time since Wimbledon, as she and partner Sania Mirza look to continue their dominance of the WTA Doubles tour. Seeded first, the duo await the winner of Eri Hozumi and Maria Irigoyen (New York Empire) against Shelby Rogers (San Diego Aviators) and Naomi Broady (Philadelphia Freedoms).
