DURHAM, N.C. – One-hit nine-inning complete games helped Elmira LHP Justin Stine and Sioux City RHP Jordan Romero earn Daktronics Northern League Pitcher of the Week honors Monday for the period ending June 23.

Winnipeg infielder Brent Sachs and Albany-Colonie outfielder Brandon Pernell were named Daktronics Northern League Players of the Week.

Stine, in his second season with Elmira after spending two in the Toronto organization, had not surrendered fewer than six runs in his first three starts before mowing down Allentown on June 19. He gave up one hit and one run to improve his ERA to 6.49.

Romero, 25, out of De Anza Community College, one-hit and shut out Schaumburg on June 21 to grab the Central Division pitcher honor. It was Romero's first start in which he pitched more than six innings. Romero is pitching in the Northern League for his third season and his second with the Explorers.

Pernell, 25, raised his batting average from .212 to .262 in the week while going 11-for-26 (.423) with four runs, three doubles, two homers, seven RBIs and two stolen bases. His slugging percentage was .769 for the week and his on-base percentage was .500.

Sachs, 27, went 12-for-32 in the week, scored nine times and hit three homers. He recorded three three-hit games during the week. A career .288 hitter in professional baseball, Sachs hit .305 last year for the Goldeyes.
