Omar Cook becomes sixth NBDL-to-NBA "Gatorade Callup" of the season

GREENVILLE, S.C., February 3 – Fayetteville Patriots point guard Omar Cook has signed a 10-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, making him the sixth NBDL-to-NBA "Gatorade Callup" of the season for the National Basketball Development League.

This is Cook's second Gatorade Callup. The former St. John's star was signed by the Boston Celtics on April 17, 2002 following the inaugural NBDL season. Since the NBDL began competition in November 2001, 20 players have received 28 "Gatorade Callups" to play for NBA teams.

Cook played in and started 24 games for the Patriots, averaging 40.9 minutes, 10.2 points, 9.0 assists and 2.6 steals. His assists and steals totals lead the NBDL and he was on a pace to shatter league assist records.
