COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Jon Oman, who most recently served as the associate director of athletic communications and marketing for Michigan Tech University, was today named as coordinator of media relations and marketing for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich.

"We're certainly pleased to have someone with Jon's background and ability join our staff," said Scott Monaghan, director of operations for the NTDP. "He's extremely passionate about the game and a very driven individual."

Oman's responsibilities with the NTDP will include serving as the media contact for both the U.S. National Under-17 and Under-18 Teams. He will also oversee all marketing efforts associated with the NTDP and work alongside the national office media and public relations staff in publicizing hockey at all levels in the United States.

At Michigan Tech, Oman was the primary media contact for the NCAA Division I men's ice hockey program and five Division II sports. Oman began his duties at MTU in January 2005 as the assistant director of athletic communications and marketing and was promoted to associate director in August 2006.

Prior to his tenure at Michigan Tech, Oman served as a graduate assistant sports information director at Bemidji State (Minn.) University from August 2003 to January 2005. At BSU, he was the primary contact for the Division I women's ice hockey team and three Division II sports.

A volunteer at the NCAA Frozen Four the past two years, Oman has also been a member of the media relations team at the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Five each of the past four seasons. Additionally, he served as one of two media coordinators for the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship Midwest Regional in Green Bay, Wis., while holding the same role at the 2006 and 2007 Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit, Mich.

A 2002 graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., Oman received a bachelor's degree in communication with an emphasis in mass media and a minor in business. While there, he was the sports director for the campus television station, Concordia ON-AIR.

Originally from Crookston, Minn., Oman is married to the former Elissa Bjelland of Lewistown, Mont.

Oman, who replaces Andy Madden, will begin his duties on Friday (Oct. 12).
