Omaha Nighthawks News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Monday, January 3, 2011 - The United Football League announced today that it will not renew the contract of Omaha Nighthawks head coach JEFF JAGODZINSKI for the 2011 UFL season.

Former Boston College head coach Jagodzinski led the Nighthawks to a 3-1 record and joint first place on top of the UFL standings in 2010 before his team suffered a four-game losing streak that led to an eventual 3-5 record at the conclusion of the regular season.

"I would like to thank coach Jeff Jagodzinski for helping to establish the Omaha Nighthawks as a member of the United Football League and for his hard work since he and I announced the expansion franchise back in April," said UFL Commissioner MICHAEL HUYGHUE.

"The Nighthawks were arguably the biggest success story in sports off the field in 2010 with four straight sellouts and a buzz that engulfed the city of Omaha. But on the field the team was unable to replicate that success and as people involved with our sport appreciate, a head coach's longevity is linked with on-field results, so we have chosen to make a change."

Nighthawks General Manager RICK MUELLER added: "I would like to thank Jeff for his time here in Omaha and the hard work he contributed to helping us build this franchise. We wish him well in his future coaching career."

Jagodzinski's Nighthawks enjoyed home victories against the Hartford Colonials and Sacramento Mountain Lions and also won on the road in Hartford, but needing to win at Sacramento in Week 9, fell to a 41-3 defeat ruling them out of Championship Game contention. The city of Omaha hosted the UFL Championship Game on November 27 as the Las Vegas Locos defeated the Florida Tuskers 23-20 at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Commissioner Huyghue added: "We have begun the process of hiring a new head coach, but have not identified the person who will fill this position and do not expect to finalize any decisions at this time.

"We have numerous options and we may lose other coaches during the course of the coming months that may influence our personnel decisions, which rest with me as Commissioner. We remain committed to putting the best head coaches available on the field in 2011."
