Omaha Beef Fall 61-40 To Billings Outlaws Saturday Evening

Omaha, NE - The Omaha Beef professional indoor football team fell to the Billings Outlaws 61-40 Saturday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium.

The BEEF's record now sits at 8-3 on the season. With four games remaining on the season, Omaha sits in second place in the extremely competitive Western Conference. The race for home-field advantage in the conference is heating up. The BEEF are a half-game behind the Sioux Falls Storm (8-2) and a half-game ahead of the Outlaws (7-3).

The BEEF scored first when James McNear connected with Ken Horton on a 24-yard pass to go up 7-0 with 14:28 remaining in the first quarter. Diezeas Calbert had intercepted Billings quarterback Chris Dixon on the Outlaws' opening drive. The Outlaws came right back with a touchdown of their own to tie the score at 7-7. On the BEEF's next drive, R.J. Rollins rumbled 37 yards for a touchdown to put Omaha back up 13-7. Billings went on to score on the next four possessions before Rollins ran another in from five yards out to bring the BEEF within 15 at 35-20. The Outlaws added two more scores before halftime to take the lead 47-20.

In the second half, the BEEF scored three touchdowns to the Outlaws' two as the final score read Billings 61, Omaha 40. Kyle Whitehurst returned a Dixon interception three yards for a touchdown and Blake Fuchtman caught a six-yard pass from McNear, both in the third quarter. Rollins added his third touchdown of the evening, a one-yard run, with 7:46 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Rollins led the team in rushing with his 50 yards and three touchdowns. McNear completed 16 of 26 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Horton led in receiving with his six catches and 60 yards. On defense, Calbert and Whitehurst led the way with eight and seven tackles, respectively as well as each grabbing an interception. On special teams, Ricky Lebeda contributed four extra points while Rollins returned eight kicks for 148 yards.

The BEEF have a bye this weekend before heading south to face the Wichita Wild on May 31st. A fan bus is planning to make the trip to Wichita.
