Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 announced today that the team has been assigned OL/DL Phillip Perry for the 2006 season. The 6-foot-2, 295 pound Perry spent all of last season with the Xplorers and will be back to help the team defend its ArenaCup title. During his rookie season in 2005, he played in nine games and finished with eight tackles, one tackle for loss, two sacks, one pass break-up, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble and two blocked kicks.

"I look for Philip Perry to come in and have a great year for the Memphis Xplorers," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "Philip has the opportunity to be the best two-way lineman that I have ever coached. Phillip will be a huge piece of our coming season's success."

Perry played his college ball at San Jose State where he started his career as a linebacker and then was converted to defensive end. He was the first San Jose State player in history to be named to the Bronco Nagurski "Watch List". He also tied for third in the nation in forced fumbles during his junior season in 2002. The 2003 preseason All-WAC selection had 108 total tackles during his junior and senior seasons with the Spartans, including 16.5 for a loss. His seven sacks in 2002 led the team.

Perry is the 23nd player to be assigned to the Xplorers by the league office, but with WR/DB Maurice Brown's signing with Nashville of the AFL last week, the Xplorers preseason roster now consists of 22 for the 2006 season.
