Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers continue their series against the Round Rock Express at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, looking to win for the fourth time in five games. The Dodgers currently own a four-game lead ahead of second-place El Paso in the East Division standings.
Last Game: Ryan Noda hit two home runs, including a go-ahead solo homer in the seventh inning, helping the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 4-3 win against the Round Rock Express Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Round Rock built a 2-0 lead through three innings on solo home runs by Sam Huff and Elier Hernandez in the second and third innings, respectively. The Dodgers trimmed the lead to one run in the fourth inning, scoring a run on an errant pickoff attempt. Noda tied the game at 2-2 with his first homer in the fifth inning. Both teams exchanged runs in the sixth inning with Round Rock taking the lead by scoring a run on a wild pitch and Andy Burns answering with a RBI single. Then with the game in a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning, Noda went deep again, giving the Dodgers a 4-3 advantage on the way to taking a 3-1 series lead.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Beau Burrows (4-3) makes his 11th start of the season tonight...He last pitched June 17 in Reno, starting and allowing four runs (three earned) and six hits over a season-high 6.0 innings with five walks and one strikeout. He was the winning pitcher in the team's 12-7 victory...Burrows leads the team with 58.2 innings and is second with 63 strikeouts, which are tied for 10th-most in the PCL...Over his last two games, Burrows has allowed 11 walks against just two strikeouts in 8.2 innings. Prior to June 11 vs. Salt Lake, he'd never walked more than four batters in his career and has now done it in back-to-back games...Burrows signed with the Dodgers as a free agent Nov. 28, 2021 after playing for Triple-A Toledo and St. Paul last season. He also made five MLB appearances for Detroit and Minnesota...He was originally selected by Detroit with the 22nd pick of the first round in the 2015 MLB Draft out of Weatherford High School (Texas)...In his previous two starts at Round Rock, Burrows allowed a total of one run and nine hits, with five walks and 13 strikeouts over 10.2 innings, notching a pair of victories. On May 31, he combined with two relievers on an 8-0 shutout. Overall he has made three appearances against the Express this season and has a team-leading 19 K's against Round Rock over 16.0 total innings.
Against the Express: 2022: 11-5 2021: 16-13 All-time: 157-126 At OKC: 72-62 The Dodgers and Express play their third series of the season and third in seven weeks, but first of 2022 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...The Dodgers entered this series with an 8-4 record in the season series to date, most recently winning a six-game set at Dell Diamond, 4-2, May 31-June 5. The teams exchanged shutouts in their first two games of the last series and the Dodgers posted wins in three of the last four meetings...Through the first 16 games of the season between the teams, Miguel Vargas has a team-best 24 hits and 18 RBI. Pitcher Beau Burrows is 2-0 against the Express with 19 K's in 16.0 innings...The teams had a wild first series in Round Rock May 10-15, which OKC won, 4-2, winning four straight games in the middle of the series. OKC recorded its largest shutout win in the team's Bricktown era (since 1998) with a 19-0 victory May 12 and Yefry Ramírez became the first OKC Dodger and first pitcher throughout the entire PCL to throw a nine-inning shutout since 2018. Six different players homered in that same game for the first time in the team's Bricktown era. In series finale May 15, OKC lost a game when scoring at least 13 runs for just the fifth time during the team's Bricktown era and for the first time since 2007, as Round Rock won, 14-13...The Dodgers have won five of the last six season series between the teams.
Life At the Top: With Friday's win, the Dodgers improved to a season-best 18 games above .500 at 44-26, marking the most games the team has been above .500 since finishing the 2016 season with an 81-60 record. The Dodgers have now won seven of their last nine games, nine of the last 12 games and 13 of the last 17 games. They have also won eight of their last 10 home games...OKC has 44 wins through 70 games for their best record through 70 games since the 2015 season when the team went 47-23...OKC has won four straight series and is 9-1-3 through their first 13 series of the season, with their lone series loss going to Reno in OKC in late May. The Dodgers can do no worse than split the current series and can win the series with a victory tonight or Sunday.
Noda-ry Public: Last night, Ryan Noda collected his second multi-homer game of the season and first since April 10 against Albuquerque in Oklahoma City. It was the seventh different multi-homer game by a Dodgers player this season, but Noda is the first to accomplish the feat twice this year. Before Thursday, Noda last homered June 5 in Round Rock and now has 10 home runs this season - tied for third among OKC players...Prior to last night, Noda had been held 12-for-63 (.190) with two RBI over his first 18 games of June with 11 walks and 12 runs scored.
Gettin' Miggy With It: Miguel Vargas went 2-for-3 Friday with a walk and run scored and is now 11-for-27 (.407) during a seven-game hitting streak with six RBI, six walks and five runs scored. He's in the midst of his fourth hitting streak of the season of at least seven games, with his season high 10 games May 28-June 9...In 16 games against Round Rock this season, Vargas has 24 hits and 18 RBI and is slashing .364/.440/.621...Vargas leads the PCL with 58 runs scored this season and is tied for first with 40 walks. His 77 hits and 131 total bases are both second, while his 28 extra-base hits are tied for sixth.
On the Lamb: Jake Lamb had Friday off but picked up a hit, walk, RBI and scored a run Thursday as he boosted his career-best hitting streak to 14 games. During the stretch, he is 21-for-54 (.389) with three homers, seven doubles, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored. The streak is the longest by a Dodgers player this season, tied for the longest active hitting streak in the PCL and tied for the third-longest active hitting streak in the Minors. It is the longest hitting streak by an OKC Dodgers player since Edwin Ríos hit safely in 14 straight games in August 2019. The last OKC player with a hitting streak longer than 14 games was Gavin Lux when he hit safely in 16 consecutive games June 27-July 19, 2019...Lamb has also reached base in 18 straight games for the longest active on-base streak among OKC players and his second streak of at least 15 games. Miguel Vargas is the lone OKC player with a longer on-base streak this season, having reached base in 19 straight games. Lamb has now reached base in 28 of his last 29 games and in 43 of his last 45 games. Since April 24 (45 games), Lamb is slashing .331/.443/.620 with 12 homers, 12 doubles, 33 walks, 41 RBI and 35 runs scored...Lamb leads the Dodgers with 15 home runs (T-3rd, PCL) and is tied for the team lead with 50 RBI (T-3rd, PCL). His 66 hits (8th, PCL) are second-most on the team and his 39 walks are third (4th, PCL).
Mound Matters: Friday marked the third time in the last four games and fourth time in the last six games the Dodgers allowed three runs or less. They also held the Express to four hits Friday and have allowed no more than four hits in four of the last six games. During the six-game span, opponents are batting .184 (35x190) and the team has a 3.06 ERA (18 ER/53.0 IP)...Last night Jon Duplantier pitched a season-high 3.2 innings in his first start (19th appearance) of the season, allowing two runs on two solo homers. Sam Gaviglio and Carson Fulmer then combined to retire 16 of the game's final 18 Express batters, including the final 11 in a row, as Gaviglio recorded the win and Fulmer picked up his team-leading seventh save of the season (2nd, PCL). Gaviglio retired 13 of the 15 batters he faced with the only two he didn't retire reaching on a bunt single and an error. The trio combined for 10 strikeouts against only one walk.
Close Calls: For the first time since the first three games of the season, they Dodgers have played three straight one-run games. The team is now 12-8 in one-run games, including 8-5 in OKC...Last season the Dodgers had the fewest one-run wins in the league, going 13-22.
On the Offensive: The Dodgers have now hit a home run in 11 of the last 12 games (17 HR) and in 17 of the last 19 games (27 HR)...The Dodgers lead all of Triple-A with 349 walks, while their 454 runs scored, .371 OBP and .829 OPS each rank second among the 30 teams and their .458 SLG is third...With last night's victory, the Dodgers have won 16 of their last 17 games when scoring at least four runs...Over the last 27 games, the Dodgers are 17-10. In the 17 wins, they've batted .290 (170x586) with 132 runs scored (7.8 rpg), although last night was just the second time in those 17 wins they scored less than six runs...The team has scored at least six runs in seven of the last nine games (62 R) and for the 12 times in the last 16 games (107 R).
Drew Point: Drew Avans doubled and scored a run Friday as he has reached base in 25 of his last 26 games with a plate appearance. Since May 26 (25 games), Avans is slashing .329/.453/.541 with 28 hits, 24 runs, 17 walks and 14 RBI. He has hit safely in nine of his last 11 games (14x42)...In June (20 games), Avans leads the team with 21 runs and 12 walks (tied with Jake Lamb) while his 24 hits are tied for second.
Clearance at JMart: Jason Martin's season-best on-base streak came to an end last night at 15 games as he went 0-for-4. It was the second time in the last 14 games Martin was held without a hit, and during the 14-game stretch he is batting .327 (17x52) with four home runs, two triples, four doubles and 16 RBI, nine walks and 12 runs scored...He has picked up at least one RBI in nine of his last 12 games (15 RBI).
Around the Horn: At 2 hours, 26 minutes, Friday's game was the Dodgers' 12th nine-inning game to be completed in less than 2 hours, 30 minutes. That only happened twice in 118 nine-inning games last year...Jake Lamb and Miguel Vargas are the only teammates across all 120 clubs in the Minors to record at least 50 RBI. Among Major League teams, only the New York Mets have a pair of players with 50 or more RBI (Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor)...The Dodgers have committed at least one error in eight of the last 10 games (12 E). They are now tied with Round Rock for the most errors in the PCL (64 E)...Last night was the first time in the last nine home games the Dodgers allowed more than one home run. It was also only the third time in the last 15 games opponents have gone deep more than once.
