Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - Houston Astros right-hander Jake Odorizzi tossed three innings in his first game of a Major League Rehab Assignment on Friday as the Sugar Land Space Cowboys beat the Tacoma Rainiers 8-4 at Constellation Field.
Odorizzi, who has been on the 15-Day Injured List since May 17 with left lower leg discomfort, threw 59 pitches across three innings of work. He struck out four while allowing two runs on two hits.
The Space Cowboys put up four runs in the first inning to help spark the win, evening the six-game series at 2-2.
Corey Julks and Taylor Jones each had RBI singles in the first-inning outburst, with David Hensley adding an RBI double and Yainer Diaz an RBI triple.
The Space Cowboys added two runs in each of the second and third innings. Jones delivered a two-run single in the second and Hensley a two-run opposite-field homer in the third.
Jones, who was activated from the 60-Day Injured List on Thursday and optioned to the Space Cowboys, finished the night 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Hensley's home run was his sixth of the season and second in his last four games. He hit a walk-off three-run shot in Tuesday's win over Tacoma.
Hunter Brown - rated as the Astros' No. 1 prospect, per MLB Pipeline - came on in relief and struck out five batters through five scoreless innings. Brown leads the Pacific Coast League with 85 strikeouts and is second with a 2.66 ERA. He did not allow a walk and surrendered just three hits through his five innings.
Jared Kelenic and Alex Blandino each drove in a pair of runs for Tacoma.
Peter Solomon will get the start for the Space Cowboys at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at Constellation Field. Tacoma is scheduled to start righty Daniel Ponce de Leon.
