OHL Announces Video Replay and Memorial Cup Bid Host Guidelines

Toronto - This past week the Ontario Hockey League completed its annual league Congress Meetings in Toronto, Ontario. During these meetings the League's Board of Governors announced that the OHL will utilize video replay to review all goals during 2006-07 regular season and playoffs. A league appointed video goal judge will be present at all OHL games and will view all available camera angles including overhead cameras in the goal area that will be installed in every OHL facility prior to the commencement of the season.
Video review of goals will be available in the following situations:
1. Puck crossing the goal line.
2. Puck in the net prior to the goal frame being dislodged.
3. Puck in the net prior to, or after expiration of time at the end of the period or game.
4. Puck kicked into the net by a foot or directed in by other means.
5. Puck deflected into the net off an official.
6. Puck struck with a high stick, above the height of the crossbar, by an attacking player prior to entering the net.
The Ontario Hockey League Board of Governors also ratified the bid host guidelines and procedures for the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup that will be held in an OHL center. Similar to the guidelines utilized in selecting London, Ontario as the site of the 2005 MasterCard Memorial cup, a three person site selection committee will be formed to evaluate the bids.
Member teams wishing to bid to host the Memorial Cup must do so by February 1, 2007. The Site Selection Committee will announce a "short list" of potential hosts by the beginning of March, 2007. In April of 2007, the cities that have been "short listed" will make a formal presentation to the Memorial Cup Site Selection Committee.
The final decision on a host site for the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup will be announced in May 2007, during the week immediately succeeding the annual OHL Priority Selection. The successful Bid Organizing Committee shall make an on-site visit to the city of Vancouver during the 2007 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
