OHL Announces Roster for Russian Challenge

Published on October 30, 2003 under Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release

Toronto - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the roster of players who will represent the OHL in the RE/MAX Canada/Russia Challenge on November 17 in London and November 19 in Sarnia.

The players were selected by the management team of Jeff Twohey, General Manager of the Peterborough Petes and Mike Kelly, General Manager of the Windsor Spitfires, along with Blair Mackasey, Hockey Canada's Head Scout.

"Selecting this roster was extremely difficult," Kelly said. "There were more than 40 players that could have been named. It really shows the quality of talent in the OHL."

The OHL also announced that the assistant coaches for Team OHL will be Stan Butler of the Brampton Battalion, who was the head coach of Canada's National Junior Team in 2001 and 2002 and Peter DeBoer of the Kitchener Rangers, who was an assistant coach with the National Junior Team in 1998.

"This is an extremely valuable tool in Team Canada's quest to bring the gold home," said head coach Jim Hulton, who will be an assistant with Canada's National Junior Team at the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championships in Finland.

The Halifax Mooseheads (Thursday November 20) and Rimouski Oceanic (Monday November 24) will host the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League games and the Calgary Hitmen (Wednesday November 26) and Brandon Wheat Kings (Thursday November 27) of the Western Hockey League will host the final leg of the series.

All six games will be broadcasted nationally on Rogers Sportsnet.

"RE/MAX is proud to contribute to the growth of our young Canadian hockey players representing so many communities in Ontario," said David Brown, Executive Vice-President, RE/MAX Ontario/Atlantic Canada. "The rivalry between the Canadians and the Russians will make for a great contest. Go get 'em eh!"
