Ohio Machine Trades for MLL All-Star and Standout 2013 Rookie
COLUMBUS, Ohio (December 11, 2013) - The Ohio Machine (Machine), Ohio's Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team, announced today the acquisition of MLL All-Star face-off specialist Matt Dolente and 2013 rookie midfielder Kevin Cooper, as well as the 13th overall pick in the 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft, in a trade with the New York Lizards. In return, the Lizards receive Machine defenseman Kyle Hartzell.
"This trade allows us to address multiple areas of need on the roster heading into the Supplemental Draft," said Machine President and GM John Algie. "We've added a young and athletic offensive midfielder in Kevin, a proven All-Star face-off specialist in Matt and a high pick in the upcoming collegiate draft. It is hard to let go of a player like Kyle who has played well for us these past two seasons but the Machine improved immensely at many positions today with this trade. We look forward to seeing Matt and Kevin on the field for the Machine in 2014."
Matt Dolente, a Johns Hopkins alum, has played the majority of his MLL career with the Hamilton Nationals. Dolente was named a MLL All-Star during the 2012 season when he went 219 for 395 at the face-off X to finish the season with a 55% face-off percentage for the Nationals, as well as collect a career high of 86 ground balls. During his 2012 season, Dolente set team records with Hamilton for face-off wins with 219 and single-game face-off wins with 23. Before joining MLL, Dolente was named First Team USILA All-American, First Team Capital One Academic All-District and USILA Scholar All-American at Johns Hopkins. During his four seasons with the Blue Jays, Dolente went 442 for 805 on draws, which currently ranks him fourth in school history for face-off attempts and fifth for face-off wins.
Kevin Cooper joined MLL when the Chesapeake Bayhawks drafted him 16th Overall in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft from the University of Maryland. During his rookie season with the Bayhawks, Cooper earned Rookie of the Week honors against the Machine in Week 10 with his three goals and one assist of the game. Prior to MLL, Cooper played four seasons for Maryland where he was the leading scorer during his senior year. Cooper finished up the 2013 season playing in all 14 games for the Terrapins and recording 20 goals and 22 assists for a total of 42 points.
The Machine now has eight picks, including the number one overall pick, in the 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft, which is set for Friday, January 10, 2014 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Season tickets for the Machine's 2014 season are on sale and range from General Admission at $92 to a Field Level Box at $2,400 and include seven regular season home games plus a 2014 MLL playoff game. Information on 2014 season tickets can be found at www.theohiomachine.com/season-tickets.
