Offseason Report: Cameron, Vegalta Sendai Ladies Play in Empress Cup Semifinals
December 28, 2015 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Sky Blue FC News Release
While the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) offseason occurs, a handful of Sky Blue FC players have made the move overseas to continue developing their game in international competition. Throughout the NWSL offseason, we will keep you updated with the latest news and developments with our players.
In Australia W-League play, only three matches were on the Westfield slate. Sky Blue FC midfielder Sarah Killion and Adelaide United, as well as defender Caitlin Foord and midfielder Nikki Stanton with Perth Glory, did not have a match over the weekend.
After goalkeeper Brittany Cameron posted a shutout in a scoreless draw for Vegalta Sendai Ladies over Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies on Dec. 19th, her Japanese side played INAC Kobe Leonessa in the semifinals of the Empress Cup last Wednesday. The final score in that outing was 2-0 in favor of INAC, which advanced legendary Japanese midfielder Homare Sawa and her club to the Empress Cup Championship. Sawa then capped off her illustrious 25-year career with another league crown when INAC defeated Albirex Niigata Ladies on Sunday, 1-0.
