Orange County Flyers News Release
(San Ramon, CA. October 4, 2010) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that Orange County Flyers shortstop Tyler Keeble has been selected as the 2010 GBL Rookie of the Year. The newcomer was an important piece of the puzzle returning Orange County to the playoffs as he played in 85 of his team's 86 games.
Keeble, 24, played at the University of Nebraska - Kearney but was not drafted after his senior season. He played in the 2010 Arizona Winter League and was signed and drafted by Orange County Flyer Manager Paul Abbott. Given a chance to win the starting shortstop job he was successful and played alongside six-year MLB veteran Keith Ginter to give the Flyers one of the best left-sides of the infield in the league. He hit .302 while banging out 9 homers and racking up 60 RBIS, and set set a league rookie record for hits with 104. He was 3rd in the league in runs scored with 79 and his 7 triples were also third best in the league. In the playoffs he hit .364 as the Flyers fell to Maui in five games in the Division Championship Series.
Keeble is the FIRST Flyer to win the GBL rookie of the year honor.
