Orange County Flyers News Release

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Orange County Flyers and first year manager Paul Abbott begin training camp on Sunday, May 9 at Fullerton College. The Flyers have invited 29 players to make the 22-man opening day roster. Camp runs through the morning of Thursday, May 20, and the Flyers will leave that afternoon for St. George, Utah for the season opener May 21 against the RoadRunners.

Twenty-four players are currently under contract heading into camp, with all others participating as non-contracted invitees. The group includes 28 Americans with 20 players from California, as well as from Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon, and Idaho. South Korean native and former NL All-Star Byung-Hyun Kim is the lone international player attending camp. He joins Keith Ginter and Ben Johnson in the Flyers' trio of former Major Leaguers at camp.

Returning from the 2009 squad includes reigning GBL Pitcher of the Year Matt Durkin, who won a league-best 11 games in 2009. Durkin and 10-game winner Jesse Smith are each heading into their third season with Orange County.

Training camp is open to the media and to the public, and workouts are scheduled to begin Sunday at 9am. Media members interested in interviewing Abbott, as well as other coaches and players, will have access to players on Sunday at the conclusion of workouts at 1pm.

Flyers individual game tickets are now on sale and available online through the team website at www.OrangeCountyFlyers.com. The Flyers' home opener is on Tuesday, June 15 against the 2009 GBL Champion Calgary Vipers in a match up of the past two GBL Champions.
