OC Blues Visit Dr. Schiffman and Hogle Zoo on Behalf of Soccer for Hope

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. - On their recent trip to Utah to play the Real Monarchs, the Orange County Blues coaching staff made time for a visit to Hogle Zoo. On behalf of Soccer For Hope, the official charity of the OC Blues, the staff met with world-renowned oncologist Dr. Joshua Schiffman to support his efforts to understand why elephants don't get cancer.

Soccer For Hope has been the official charity of the OC Blues for two years. Since its inception in 1998, the non-profit organization has raised nearly $3 million for children with life-threatening illnesses and for pediatric cancer research. One of the main causes supported by Soccer For Hope is the ongoing "Why Elephants Don't Get Cancer" research conducted by Dr. Schiffman.

Dr. Schiffman is the director of the pediatric cancer genetics clinic at Intermountain Primary Children's Medical Center and the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. The Hogle Zoo in Utah has been tremendous in their support of Dr. Schiffman, who uses blood collected from the elephants there to study what makes them resistant to cancer.

"The work that is being done by Dr. Schiffman is simply incredible and the fact that the Orange County Blues and Soccer For Hope are contributing to finding a cure is not only gratifying but also inspiring to the entire organization," said General Manager Oliver Wyss.
