Oakley CHL Player & Goaltender of the Week Announced

Wichita center Travis Clayton has been named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week for a league-leading third time this season, while Oklahoma City netminder Sean Connors has earned Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week for Week 21 of the CHL season. Clayton registered nine points as the playoff-bound Thunder posted a perfect record of 4-0-0 during the week, while Connors led the Blazers to a pair of key wins while also recording his first shutout of the season.
Clayton, currently ranked second in the CHL scoring race with 91 points, had multiple points in each of Wichita's four home ice wins. Monday, March 7th, he scored in both regulation and overtime in a 2-1 (OT) victory over Laredo. Wednesday, he scored again and added two assists in a 5-2 win over Fort Worth, then chipped in with two more assists in Friday's 5-3 win over Memphis. He concluded the week Saturday, scoring his career-best 38th goal and registering an assist in a 5-2 victory over Topeka. Two more points this season would give Clayton a career-high point total, and his +38 rating has him tied for the CHL lead with three other players.
The Oklahoma City Blazers remain in playoff contention in large part due to a pair of outstanding outings by Connors. He turned aside all 33 shots faced in a 1-0 home win over Fort Worth March 11th to earn his first shutout of the year, then made 30 saves the following evening in a 4-2 victory over Memphis. Connors' 18 wins are tied for 10th in the CHL, and his fine week has moved him into 10th position (2.67) in goals against average and 6th (.917) in save percentage. Connors and his Blazer teammates currently trail Tulsa by two points for the fourth and final Northern Conference playoff berth with three games remaining.
