
Oakland Roots Sports Club Officially Announce Noah Delgado as Head Coach

Oakland, CA - Oakland Roots Sports Club today announced that Interim Head Coach Noah Delgado has been promoted to the title of Head Coach. Coach Delgado has been part of Oakland Roots staff since the beginning of 2021 as an Assistant Coach both in 2021 and 2022.

The 2023 season cannot come soon enough."
Coach Delgado took over as Interim Head Coach on August 18, 2022 with Oakland Roots sitting outside the playoff line with just nine games to go. Delgado led the team into the playoffs earning the biggest upset of the opening round by knocking off the 2nd seed San Diego Loyal. When Coach Delgado took over, the team had won just six games in 26 including US Open Cup play in 2022. Following his appointment, the team won 6 of 11 games including the playoff upset in San Diego.
"We are excited to have Noah as our Head Coach," said Roots President Lindsay Barenz. "He is committed to our goal of playing exciting, winning soccer that develops players and being a leading voice for health, equity, and happiness in Oakland."
"Noah has been an essential part of the coaching staff for Roots as we've grown into the USL Championship," said Technical Director Jordan Ferrell. "In 2022, he stepped in as Head Coach at a difficult moment and not only steadied the ship, but was able to guide this team back where it belongs in the playoffs. Noah is someone who understands the culture of our Club, has deep ties to the East Bay, and we're excited to have him lead us on the field going forward."
Noah Delgado is very experienced with the USL having played in the league for over 10 years most prominently for the Puerto Rico Islanders. While with Puerto Rico, he would also earn the opportunity to represent the Island's national team making 25 appearances. Delgado is a product of the 510 area code having been born and raised in the East Bay city of Fremont, CA. Delgado is an Irvington High School graduate where he represented the soccer team before going on to play collegiately at Fresno State in California's Central Valley.
2022 Interim Assistant Coach Gavin Glinton also returns as First Assistant Coach on Delgado's Staff.
