Oakland Roots SC Earn First Point Away at Rio Grande Valley

Oakland created the first chance of the game through deep build up play which led to an Anuar Peláez shot that was saved inside of five minutes. Not long after Rio Grande Valley created their first chance, Jonathan Ricketts found the back of the net off a set piece that led to a scramble in the box as the home side took the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Oakland pushed and created one more big chance, but went into the half down a goal.

Oakland pressed early in the second half and created a few small chances without anything substantial going their way for the first 35 minutes. Noah Delgado made four substitutions including striker Johnny Rodriguez which paid-off. Rodriguez found the back of the net of a second assist of the year from Edgardo Rito to draw Oakland Roots level in the 82nd minute of the game 1-1. Oakland hit the crossbar with the best chance of the night to win the game just before the ref blew the final whistle as both teams earned a point.
