NWHL Player of the Month for January: Whitecaps' All-Star Amanda Leveille
Minnesota Whitecaps All-Star goaltender Amanda Leveille is the NWHL's Player of the Month for January.
Leveille started in all eight of the Whitecaps' games in January and guided her team to a 6-2-0 record. She began the month with a 34-save shutout against the Metropolitan Riveters on Jan. 4. She earned a second shutout on Jan. 19 against the Connecticut Whale, again making 34 saves to blank the opposition's offense. In Minnesota's penultimate game before the All-Star break, Leveille made 36 saves to hand the Boston Pride their first loss of the 2019-20 season.
Through 458:19 minutes between the pipes in the first month of the year, Leveille earned an outstanding .953 save percentage. She allowed two or fewer goals in six of her eight starts and made at least 30 saves in five starts. Going by the numbers, Leveille is in the middle of her best NWHL season to date. She has a .932 save percentage, a 2.13 GAA and a league-leading 0.97 GSAA/60 (goals saved above average per-hour). As a result of Leveille's stalwart goaltending, the Whitecaps locked up second place in the regular season standings, guaranteeing them home-ice advantage in the first round of the 2020 Isobel Cup Playoffs.
Leveille will be in net for Team Packer at the 2020 NWHL All-Star Weekend in Boston. The weekend's events begin on Feb. 8th at 8 p.m. ET with the All-Star Skills Competition, where Leveille will be a must-watch player as a previous winner of the Fastest Goalie event at the 2018 All-Star Weekend in St. Paul, MN. On Feb. 9th, the All-Stars will be on the ice with fans for a special "Skate with the All-Stars" event at 11:15 a.m. ET. Later that day, at 2:30 p.m. ET, the All-Star Game itself kicks off at Warrior Ice Arena. Tickets for all three events are available at nwhl.zone/allstar.
