
Nunn, Ruegsegger Re-Sign with Aces

The Alaska Aces have re-signed forwards Garry Nunn and Tyler Ruegsegger for the 2012-2013 season, Head Coach Rob Murray announced on Thursday. Both men are returning to Alaska for the third straight season. The 2012-2013 Aces season begins on the road and the club will return home on Friday, October 19 at Sullivan Arena. Nunn, 22, has spent his entire pro career with the Aces. Since joining the club as an amateur at the end of the 2009-2010 season, he has played in 149 regular season games and 18 playoff games. Overall, the 5'9", 175 lbs. Victoria, British Columbia native has amassed 80 points (27g, 53a) in the regular season and 8 points (2g, 6a) in the postseason. Last year, in his second full season, Nunn posted career high numbers in goals (15), assists (29), and points (44) in 67 games. He added two goals and three assists in ten playoff games as the team's fourth leading postseason scorer.
When the upcoming season begins, Nunn will have spanned over four Alaska seasons, which currently makes him the most tenured Aces player under contract for the 2012-2013 campaign. Twice a 27-goal scorer in juniors, Nunn has increased his goals, assists, and points each year so far with Alaska. He has also appeared in 139 of 144 regular season games over the last two years. Prior to turning pro, he played his junior hockey in the WHL and BCHL.
Ruegsegger, 24, returns to Alaska after an impressive season and a half with the Aces. A late-season acquisition from the Utah Grizzlies in 2011, the 6'0", 200 lbs. Lakewood, CO native became an instrumental part of Alaska's 2011 Kelly Cup Championship. He has made the most of his time with the Aces, earning three separate American Hockey League call-ups.
Ruegsegger finished the 2010-2011 regular season in Abbotsford of the AHL before returning to rejoin the Aces in the playoffs. Last year he earned a December call-up to Bridgeport, and then later a late season call-up to Abbotsford once again. He skated in 47 games with the Aces and had 25 points (13g, 12a) last year. He got off to a tremendous start with 15 points (8g, 7a) in 22 games before his first trip to the AHL. Over all he has 40 points (22g, 18a) in 70 games with the Aces and 59 points (30g, 29a) in 125 professional games. He had four goals and four assists in 13 playoff games in 2011.
Ruegsegger is a former 6th round selection (#166 overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2006 NHL Draft, and played college hockey at the University of Denver. While with Denver, Ruegsegger finished third all-time with 28 power play goals. In his senior year, he finished second on the Pioneers with a career-high 41 points, while serving as an alternate captain. He was named to 2010 All-WCHA Second Team, and was a co-recipient of Denver's award for top scholar athlete in 2010, 2008, and 2007. He was named to All-WCHA Academic Team three times, and majored in business administration. Ruegsegger represented the U.S. at 2008 World Junior Championships, helping the club to a fourth-place finish. Prior to college, he won a national championship at Shattuck-St. Mary's in 2005.
Nunn and Ruegsegger are the eighth and ninth players under contract with Alaska for the upcoming season. They join goaltender Gerald Coleman, defensemen Steve Ward and Kane Lafranchise, and forwards Nick Mazzolini, Jordan Kremyr, Tim Hall, and Matt Robinson.
