Dallas Vigilantes News Release

DALLAS, Texas - Long-time Arena Football League executive Gene Nudo has been named the first General Manager of the Dallas Vigilantes, owner Peter C. "Woody" Kern announced Wednesday.

Nudo will oversee all operations of the organization, both on the field and from a business perspective.

An AFL pioneer, Nudo has been intimately involved with the league since its inception in 1987, serving as a coach and a distinguished front office executive. Nudo is the only three-time winner of the league's Executive of the Year Award, which he earned while leading the Arizona Rattlers' operations.

Nudo is also a recipient of the league's prestigious Founder's Award which is given to individuals who dedicated their careers to the betterment and development of the AFL.

"We are very lucky to be able to bring in a guy with the experience and background of Gene Nudo to lead the Dallas Vigilantes," said Kern. "As we build our organization and mold it into one of the standard-bearers for the league, it is imperative that we continue to add talented, successful individuals into the fold. The fact that we were able to attract a guy the caliber of Gene demonstrates that we are building the Dallas Vigilantes the right way and are seen within our sport as an organization on the rise."

The Vigilantes are in their inaugural season of play in the AFL after beginning business operations slightly more than four months ago.

"I am excited to be in Dallas with a young and upcoming organization like the Vigilantes," Nudo said. "Our focus will be on winning football games and providing outstanding value and quality entertainment to our fans. Woody is a respected owner within this league who expects nothing less than winning championships. We certainly will not shy away from those goals."

Nudo's teams have regularly enjoyed success, dating back to the early years of the AFL when Nudo helped lead the Chicago Bruisers to the AFL championship game in 1988. Nudo's squad eventually lost that contest to a Detroit Drive team quarterbacked by Vigilantes head coach Rich Ingold.

Nudo would become the AFL's Director of Football Operations before joining the Arizona Rattlers organization in 1995. Under the guidance of Nudo, the Rattlers advanced to four ArenaBowls, including three straight from 2002-2004, and won the AFL championship in 1997. Nudo also served as Arizona's head coach from 2006-07, leading the Rattlers to the American Conference semi-finals in 2006.
