The U-18 team scored their first of five unanswered U.S. goals as Jack Skille (Madison, Wisc.) found the back of the net at 11:36 of the first period, just over four minutes after Phantoms forward Rob Rassey (Detroit, Mich.) opened the game scoring with a shorthanded tally at the 7:21.

The U.S. countered with a four-goal outburst with MacVoy notching his second of the night followed by a pair of goals by blue liner Mark Mitera (Livonia, Mich.).

U.S. citizen Jason Bailey (Nepean, Ontario) closed the scoring onslaught for the home club as he scored his first goal as a member of the NTDP at 13:49 of the last period.

Andreas Vlassopolous (Los Angeles, Calif.) sparked the U.S. assault with just 2:38 gone from the first period as he recorded his first ever goal for the NTDP on a feed from Nathan Gerbe (Oxford, Mich.). Peter Mueller (Bloomington, Minn.) and Chad Morin (Auburn, N.Y.) each followed with their first goals of the season and Chris Cahill (North Andover, Mass.) notched his second of the year to put the U.S. out in front 4-0.

The U.S. goal scoring ignited once again in the second period as Gerbe beat Youngstown goaltender Tom O'Brien (Chicago, Ill.) glove side for his first goal of the new season. Ryan Stoa (Bloomington, Minn.), a 26-goal scorer last year for the NTDP, scored the first of his two goals in the 2004-2005 after splitting a pair of Youngstown defenseman and rifling a shot, high glove side past the outmatched Youngstown goaltender.
