Nowicki, Bourquin go deep for first time this season

Schaumburg, IL - The Railcats (23-19) defeated the Flyers (14-28) 15-7 at Alexian Field Saturday night. The game saw plenty of offense as there was a combined four homeruns that left the park for the two teams, and over 20 runs scored.

The offense started early for the RailCats as they put up four runs in the top of the first inning, all driven in on back to back long balls by Mike Massaro and Mike Reese. The Flyers answered back with a one run in bottom of the first and third.

The Railcats would not be denied as they put up four more runs in the the third, one in the fourth, and then one in the fifth.

The Flyers were able to tack on another run couple runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. One of these came off of newly acquired Ron Bourquin's first homerun with the team. Another was picked up off a Joe Nowicki shot to right, his first of the season as well.

Gary was able to put up four more runs off of Schaumburg pitcher Matt Elliot in the top of the ninth that solidified the win for the Railcats.

Brett Harker (1-6) took the loss for the Flyers. He pitched four innings allowed ten runs on ten hits, eight of which were earned and struck out four. Nolan Nicholson (1-1) tossed a solid five innings for Gary to earn the win.

The Flyers and RailCats will the final game of a two game set at Alexian Field tomorrow. The game will be followed by fireworks to celebrate the 4th of July.
