Schaumburg Flyers News Release
Loves Park, IL - The Flyers (14-27) were outmatched by the Riverhawks (18-21) in an 8-3 loss at Road Ranger Stadium Friday night, pushing their losing streak to six games.
For the third straight game, Schaumburg's opponents jumped out to an early lead. Rockford's Kevin House singled to start things off, then Jake Eigsti followed that up with a hit of his own. House came around to score after starter Todd Moser (1-5) tossed a ball wide of catcher Richard Mercado to plate the first run.
The Riverhawks put two more on the board in the second and three in the third to push the lead to 6-0. After Northern League hitting leader Jason James put down a bunt single and Rich Austin walked, Patrick O'Sullivan blasted a double to plate James. Then consecutive Ian Church and Evan McArthur singles scored two.
Rockford got two more in the fourth, capped off by an O'Sullivan solo home run over the left field fence to push the Riverhawks lead to eight.
The Flyers were able to fight back for three of their own in the fifth with some timely hitting. With two away, Joe Pauley walked and newly activated Ron Bourquin singled to bring runners to first and third. Josh Burrus stepped up and smashed a double to deep left, followed by a Travis Brown liner into right to cut the lead to 8-3, but that was all the offense Schaumburg could muster.
On the mound, Moser struggled in his second straight outing, surrendering eight runs on 13 hits in just 3.1 innings with two walks and a strikeout. Ben Reeser came in for 3.2 innings of solid relief, scattering four hits, giving up no runs and keeping the game in reach.
Rockford starter Roger Lincoln (3-3) was solid, allowing just three runs in six innings to earn the win.
The Flyers return home for a quick two game set with the Railcats Saturday night to celebrate the holiday weekend. It's a Fireworks Night at Alexian Field, so come out to the ballpark to see a show on the field and in the sky.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Railcats. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 5:50 PM with the game to follow.
