Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Three unanswered goals by the Lincoln Stars en route to a 4-3 win at the Ice Box Friday prevented the Waterloo Black Hawks from bringing home any advantage after two games in the USHL Western Conference finals.
Waterloo went to the third period ahead 3-2, but Kevin Roy batted Paul LaDue's shot out of midair and past Stephon Williams while the Stars were shorthanded at 4:17, tying the matchup. With just under six minutes remaining in regulation, Roy set up the game-winner, creating the chance for Dominik Shine to snap a wrist shot into the net during a rush up ice.
Aaron Pearce had put the Hawks ahead early at the tail-end of a first period power play. In transition, the Hawks' captain stepped into the Stars' zone and blasted a shot past Charles Williams from the left wing circle at 4:10. Lincoln tied the game at 9:48 of the frame, as Luke Johnson capped a two-on-one rush with a one-timer dished by Vinni Lettieri. Waterloo went to intermission with the lead, thanks to Mark Naclerio's determination to hang onto the puck in the right wing circle. Shaking a defender, Naclerio was able to center a feed for Jamie Hill, who stuffed it inside the post.
Each team found the net in the second. Just after a Hawks power play had come to an end, a glancing shot found Taylor Cammarata for an easy score while Charles Williams was hugging the opposite post to guard against the initial chance. The Stars cut into the lead at 14:18 when Tommy Shutt poked in an opportunity during a power play.
Lincoln owned a hefty edge in chances Friday, outshooting the Hawks 41-28. The margin was 28-14 after the first 40 minutes.
The series moves to Young Arena for Game Three Saturday at 7:05. The best-of-five set is even after each team came away with one win during the opening games in Lincoln. Waterloo claimed Game One Wednesday 5-2. Hawks fans are encouraged to wear red to the rink for Saturday's contest.
