North Stars Sweep Warriors

TRAVERSE CITY, MI- Kelin Ainsworth scored at the 18:17 of the third period as the Traverse City North Stars defeated the Michigan Warriors 5–4 in front of 682 fans on Saturday night at the Center Ice Arena.

Warriors forward Thomas McEachern opened up the scoring at the 12:25 mark of the first period, McEachern's goal came on a pass from defensemen Ian Miller.

The North Stars tied the game at the 6:24 mark of the second period on a power-play goal from Steven Behm. Connor Schmidt and Jared Van Wormer picked up the assists on the goal.

The North Stars (14-8-1) extended their lead at the 9:33 mark of the second period on an unassisted goal from Connor Schmidt.

At the 4:38 mark of the third period, the Warriors (13-8-2) knotted the game on a goal from forward Joe Sanchez. Forward Chris Eckler picked up the helper on the Sanchez goal.

"Joe and Chris have great chemistry and the two of them are leading by example" Warriors General Manager and coach Moe Mantha said.

The North Stars capitalized on a Warriors penalty at the 12:17 mark of the period on a power-play goal from Sean Murphy.

42 second later, the Warriors responded with a power-play goal from forward Andrew Kolb. Forwards Scott Henegar and Tyler Perpich picked up the assists on the play.

"Andrew's scored big goals all year and this was just another one of those" Mantha said

Tim Opie gave the North Stars a 4-3 lead on the power-play at the 15:02 mark of the period.

Forward Scott Henegar tied the game for the Warriors at the 16:26 mark; Henegar's goal came on the power-play. Defensemen Michael Szuma and forward Andrew Kolb picked up the helpers on the goal.

"Scotty has been a major contributor on the power-play for our team, tonight was no different" said Mantha

At the 18:17 mark of the period Ainsworth potted the game winning goal, the goal was his second game winner in as many games.

"The team came back from a two goal deficit again against a good team and we have get two points next weekend," Mantha said, foreshadowing next Friday's game home game versus the Port Huron Fighting Falcons.
