Traverse City North Stars News Release

TRAVERSE CITY - On Grand Traverse Hockey Association Night, a trio of GTHA alums showed off their homegrown skills on Saturday evening at Centre ICE Arena, powering the Traverse City North Stars to a 6-1 triumph over interdivisional foe Chicago.

The TC triumvirate of Mitchell Snider (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL), Eric Rivard (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL), and captain Jared Van Wormer (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) combined for 11 points while sporting commemorative GTHA jerseys that were auctioned off during the event. Snider scored the game's first two goals, Rivard added another - his fourth of the weekend - and both Rivard and Van Wormer dished out a trio of assists.

"I thought it was great - very fitting that on this night that the Traverse City line came out here and basically took over the game," said Stars GM Anthony Palumbo. "It shows what kind of foundation in the game they all got in the GTHA, and what these guys have done with the abilities they have. It couldn't have been scripted any better."

After stinging Chicago 9-0 in Friday's series opener, the North Stars did not let off the throttle on Saturday, with Snider ringing in the affair with even-strength goals at 3:18 and 9:53 that were both set up by Rivard and Van Wormer. Nathan Harris (Fowlerville, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) made it 3-0 just over two minutes later, with Rivard and Snider assisting on the power play tally.

Chicago finally broke through 1:57 into the second period, but Rivard (from Snider) and Kyle Schempp (Saginaw, MI/Compuware U18/Ferris State) scored a mere 1:14 apart to close out the stanza, and Kyle Loridon (Howell, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) tossed a cherry on top with the only goal of the third period, with 1:51 remaining.

Kyle Laslo (Fenton, MI/Osoyoos KIJHL) stopped 26 shots, upping his season mark to 20-13-4, while Van Wormer and Rivard dished out three assists each. Snider collected a pair of helpers, while Chris Waterstreet (Northville, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) contributed one.

"Four points out of four," Palumbo said. "That's the goal every weekend. Now we have to start thinking about a big game this Tuesday against the team we're chasing. We're running out of chances to face them head-to-head and have to make the most of the remaining matchups."

Palumbo was referring to second-place Kalamazoo, who shut out St. Louis on Saturday afternoon to maintain its 10-point lead on Traverse City in the NAHL North Division standings. The Jr. K-Wings visit Centre ICE Arena on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m., with the Stars heading to Kalamazoo for a pair of games next weekend.
