North Carolina Trades McCall Zerboni to Sky Blue FC
January 10, 2020 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release
Chicago - The North Carolina Courage have traded veteran midfielder McCall Zerboni to Sky Blue FC in exchange for the rights to Hailie Mace and a conditional fourth round pick in the 2021 NWSL College Draft, the two teams announced today.
McCall will enter her eighth NWSL season in 2020 after joining the league in its inception as a member of the Western New York Flash. The midfielder has spent the last three seasons with the Courage, winning three consecutive NWSL Shields and back-to-back NWSL Championships (2018, 2019) during that span. In 65 regular season games with North Carolina, Zerboni registered 5,487 minutes, scored six goals and added three assists.
Zerboni is ranked second in the league with 12,369 regular season minutes played, second in regular season games started (142) and third in regular season appearances (147). In 2018, the midfielder earned NWSL Team of the Month honors four times, was named to the NWSL Best XI and was a finalist for the NWSL MVP.
Mace, who was selected second overall at the 2019 NWSL Draft, joins North Carolina after completing her first full professional season with Sweden's FC Rosengard. The forward scored four goals and added two assists in 16 appearances. She completed her four-year college career at UCLA with 24 goals and 12 assists in 79 games and earned first-team All-American, All-West Region and All-Pac-12 honors in 2017 after leading the Bruins with 15 goals.
In February 2018, Mace received her first call-up to the U.S. Women's National Team ahead of the 2018 SheBelieves Cup and made her senior national team debut on April 8, 2018 in USA's 6-2 win over Mexico. She was also the only college player named to the 20-player roster for the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Championship.
The 2020 NWSL Draft will take place on Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. (ET) at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Baltimore, MD.
