Akron Racers News Release
AKRON, OH - The 18th player to be recognized as one of the 30 Akron Racers IMPACT honorees is former Oklahoma third baseman Norrelle Dickson. Dickson was drafted in the first round of the 2007 senior draft with the Racers first of two first round picks and played two phenomenal seasons with the Racers.
"Norrelle grabbed the batting title in her rookie season in the NPF. I believe that speaks volumes about the incredible player and athlete she was," noted GM Joey Arrietta.
Dickson made an immediate impression on the league in her rookie season, leading the NPF with a .387 batting average and 53 hits. Dickson's batting average that season was the third highest by a Racer in a season in franchise history. It also was the 18th best average by any hitter in league history. Dickson was also second on the Racers with 13 stolen bases and was third with 20 runs scored. Those statistics earned her a spot on the All-NPF Team in 2007. She delivered in the clutch for Akron leading them to a second place in the standings with a 26-17 record.
In 2008, Dickson continued to etch her name in the Racers yearbook. Dickson led Akron with 14 stolen bases, while also placing second on the team with 19 runs scored, 36 hits and a .298 average.
In two years with the Racers, Dickson climbed the Racer leaderboard to second in batting average with a career mark of .345 and fourth in stolen bases with 27. Dickson is also ninth all-time for the Racers with a .396 on base percentage. She also amassed 89 hits while scoring 39 runs, all the while, Dickson held down the hot corner for Akron defensively.
Dickson and the other 29 IMPACT honorees will be recognized this summer, culminating in a weekend-long celebration July 15-17 when the Racers welcome the Dallas Charge to Firestone Stadium for a three-game series. The Racers will welcome back many of their former players to celebrate the history of the franchise, culminating in the pre-game presentation of the 30 IMPACT honorees on July 16th. Each honoree will receive a special commemorative jersey bearing their name and number.
