Norfolk is in the ABA
October 14, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA Co-founder, today announced that Norfolk, Virginia has joined the ABA for the 2005 season. According to Newman, "When Dick Tinkham and I first conceived of bringing the ABA back, Norfolk was one of our prime target markets. We believed it would be one of the best of all ABA markets, but for some reason, it hadn't happened. Now it has, and we are pleased."
The team will be owned and operated by a partnership, MorganGunnKeys, consisting of James G. Keys III, Jabari M. Morgan and Charles V. Gunn, Jr., all of whom have extensive business and sports backgrounds. James Key, team President, added, "This is a dream come true for Jabari, Charles and myself. We have watched the ABA grow to become the largest professional sports league ever in the US and wanted to become a part of it. The opportunity to have a team in Norfolk is great and we look forward to the challenge. We know the area well and are genuinely excited to get started there."
