Norfolk Admirals News Release
Norfolk, Va. - The Admirals wrapped up a six-game homestand with a loss Tuesday in a makeup game versus the Charlotte Checkers as well as a two-game split this past weekend against the Hershey Bears. Right winger Andre Petersson, acquired from the Ottawa Senators for defenseman Alex Grant last Wednesday, assisted on a Devante Smith-Pelly goal in his first game for the Admirals Friday and scored a goal of his own on Saturday. Max Friberg had an assist against Charlotte and scored a goal in both games versus Hershey, bringing his season total to 13 goals and 31 points. Emerson Etem had another good week as he scored against the Checkers and assisted twice Saturday versus the Bears.
The Admirals took four of six games during the recent homestand, and improve their home record to 17-10-0-4, and are 6-4-0-0 overall in the last ten games. Saturday's victory and a Binghamton shootout loss catapulted Norfolk into first place in the East Division and third in the Eastern Conference.

ABOUT THIS WEEK'S MATCHUPS
The Admirals begin an important divisional road trip Friday, March 14 when they meet Binghamton at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The Admirals have posted a 1-2-0-0 record this season against Binghamton and play the Senators five more times including the regular season finale. Norfolk heads south to Pennsylvania for Saturday and Sunday contests with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Hershey Bears, respectively. The Admirals earned points in each of the five games this season versus the Penguins and own the season series lead, 4-0-0-1. The two sides top the East Division in total points (72) and close out the season series in Norfolk in a pair of weekend games at the end of March. Hershey is 3-1-0-1 against the Admirals this season and shared the points with Norfolk in two games played this past weekend. After Sunday's matchup at the Giant Center, the teams will square off on Wednesday, April 16, and Friday, April 18, during the last week of the regular season.
Five points separate these four teams in the East Division and each squad is in the playoff picture. The remainder of Norfolk's regular season schedule is heavily laden with divisional opponents as the Admirals will play 11 games against members of the East Division out of the 17 left on their schedule.
Norfolk and Binghamton see each other five times in just over a month's span. The Admirals rolled to a 5-0 victory at home during the second weekend of the season, but the Senators answered accordingly with a 4-1 win over Norfolk the next day. This will be the first game between the teams since the Trade Deadline transaction last Wednesday, March 5. The Admirals acquired right wing Andre Petersson and sent defenseman Alex Grant to the Senators. Grant completed a hat trick in Norfolk's 5-0 win over Binghamton early this season. In his first game with the Senators, Grant recorded an assist and six shots in the shootout loss to Utica, which opened the door to first place in the division for the Admirals.

The second stop of the tour and first of two in Pennsylvania brings the Admirals to the Mohegan Sun Arena for a matchup with the Penguins Saturday night. Norfolk has had success on Penguin ice this season, winning each of the three occasions they have played there. John Gibson allowed one goal in each of the three victories at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Both teams have 72 points, so the winner of this game could take control of the East Division and a top three seed in the playoffs depending on Friday's results. With so much on the line, expect tempers to flare as they have in almost each meeting this season. The Admirals and Penguins have fought a total of nine times in five games, which also includes a goalie fight between Gibson and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Jeff Deslauriers the last time the Penguins came to Norfolk. The two league leaders in penalty minutes, Norfolk's Zack Stortini and former Admiral Pierre-Luc Letourneau Leblond, fought twice already and will inevitably share the ice at some point.

Norfolk wraps up the road trip at Hershey in a matinee on Sunday at 4 p.m. The two teams each won a game in regulation in last weekend's series at Norfolk Scope Arena. Hershey is currently on the outside looking in for this season's playoff race. They sit three points out of playoff contention in ninth in the Eastern Conference with 67 points while the Admirals currently lead the East Division and stand in third in the conference. Hershey goaltender David Leggio put forth a strong effort in the Bears' 3-1 win Friday but gave up three goals in the loss on Saturday. Leading scorers Jeff Taffe and Brandon Segal didn't find the net and assisted once each in those two games.
