Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Former Stampede star Andreas Nodl and the Philadelphia Flyers have advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals after defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals Monday night. The Flyers will face the Chicago Blackhawks for the Stanley Cup.
Nodl will look to become not only the third former Stampede star to advance to the finals, but win a Stanley Cup. Chad LaRose (1999-2001) won the cup with Carolina in 2006 and Alex Goligoski (2003-04) won the cup last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Nodl is the only former USHL player to advance to the Finals this season.
Nodl spent 2004 to 2006 with the Stampede and was a key part of the Herd's first ever Anderson Cup championship in 2005-06. That year he led the team in scoring with 59 points (29g, 30a) in 58 games while leading the Stampede to their best season in franchise history (42-13-4).
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals will take place Saturday in Chicago. The Flyers made the playoffs on the last day of the regular season, defeating the New York Rangers in a shootout. They entered the postseason as the #7 seed in the Eastern Conference while the Blackhawks were the #2 seed in the Western Conference.
