Watertown Rapids News Release
WATERTOWN, N.Y. - The Watertown Rapids are pleased to introduce the Northern New York
Community Foundation as the presenting partner of the newly established Rapids Support Team. The new Rapids Support Team Powered by the Northern New York Community Foundation will focus on providing more opportunities to support north country charitable endeavors through the Watertown Rapids.
Today's announcement marks an expansion of the partnership between the Northern New York Community Foundation and the Rapids after growing together since the team's inaugural season in 2018.
The Rapids, which announced the creation of the Rapids Support Team along with a Wall of Fame to be unveiled during the 2021 season, will enter their third season of competition with more than just baseball on their minds. The new Rapids Support Team Powered by the Northern New York Community Foundation is working to develop events to host around the calendar year.
Rapids General Manager Nicholas Czerow expanded on the partnership.
"We have such a unique platform and feel we can do so much more to honor our community's generosity and recognize its many civic and community leaders. We all admire the work that the Northern New York Community Foundation does, and we are elated to have the Foundation build this program from the ground up with us."
Czerow continued, "It has been a pleasure working with the Community Foundation team to unveil this partnership. We have shared some interesting ideas and are truly focused on helping each other reach our potential with this program."
"We see this partnership as a way to broaden the ways we can uplift our community and team up with the people of the area to find new and creative ideas to build upon the charitable spirit that is part of our local heritage. We are eager to work with the Rapids family and fans and combine the efforts of individuals, families, businesses and organizations to strengthen our region," said Rande Richardson, Community Foundation executive director.
Plans for the partnership include hosting nonperishable food drives, holiday donation programs, supporting local nonprofit organizations at Rapids games, and honoring a community leader at every home game. The Community Foundation and Rapids also plan to creatively engage local fans in the community baseball experience as the region begins to emerge from the pandemic. Through its Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge, Youth Philanthropy Council, and LEAD Council, the Foundation is considering safe ways to partner with local baseball fans and help them experience the game.
