Washington, DC. The ABA Maryland Nighthawks were pleased to be on Capitol Hill recently supporting the PEP Program. Nighthawks' owner, Tom Doyle and All Star player, Lawrence Moten, met with several members of congress to discuss the importance of the PEP program at the National PE Day. National PE is a partnership between Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association and PE4life, where fellow SGMA industry leaders and celebrity athletes join together on Capitol Hill to support innovative physical education.
This annual advocacy effort has helped secure over $300 million to pay for the highly successful Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP). PEP grants enable schools to improve and expand physical education by funding the purchase of sports gear, fitness equipment, training and program development. "We were very proud to be part of this day and pleased that this program does much to improve the health of our nation's young people," said Nighthawks owner Tom Doyle. "The Maryland Nighthawks are committed to our community and doing all we can do to make a difference in the lives of young people," added Doyle. Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
