Omaha Nighthawks News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Tuesday, March 8 - Omaha Nighthawks head coach JOE MOGLIA has further strengthened his experienced assistant coaching staff with the addition of wide receivers coach KEVIN DAFT.
Daft spent seven seasons on the coaching staff at the University of California, including three seasons (2008-10) as the Golden Bears wide receivers coach after one season working with the Cal quarterbacks in 2007. From 2004-06, Daft was Cal's graduate assistant, working with the offensive line and assisting with game planning, opponent scouting and individual player development. He also was a volunteer quarterbacks coach at UC-Davis, his alma mater, in 2003.
"I am very pleased to have Kevin join our offensive staff with the Omaha Nighthawks," said offensive coordinator BART ANDRUS, who coached Daft as a player with the Tennessee Titans and in NFL Europe. "He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge with him. His experiences a wide receiver coach at the University of California as well as his time as a quarterback in the NFL, gives him a unique vantage point as an offensive assistant coach in the UFL."
Daft was selected in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, and was with the team during its run to Super Bowl XXXIV. Daft was also a member of the San Diego Chargers and Atlanta Falcons in 2000, the San Francisco 49ers in 2001 and the Titans in 2002.
Daft saw playing time in NFL Europe with both the Scottish Claymores (2000) and Amsterdam Admirals (2002). He led the Claymores to the World Bowl in 2000, and set an NFL Europe record with 30 career touchdown passes. Daft also played for the Arena Football League Indiana Firebirds in 2004, and spent time with the San Jose SaberCats in 2003.
"I am very excited to be joining the Nighthawks organization and reuniting with Bart Andrus," said Daft. "I am looking forward to working with Coach Moglia and the opportunity to be a part of the UFL."
One of the most prolific passers in UC-Davis history, Daft set five NCAA Division II records, and still is one of the top passers in program history with 7,601 yards and 68 touchdown passes. He was a two-time All-American, led the Aggies to the Division II semifinals and also was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, the Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. Daft was inducted into the UC-Davis Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
