Nighthawks change guards
January 14, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Maryland NightHawks News Release
Rockville, MD. "It is with great pride and some sadness that we have to announce that All Star guard Randy "White Chocolate" Gill has signed a very big contract with Guaiqueries de Margarita," said ABA Maryland Nighthawks' owner Tom Doyle. "The team plays in the top division in Venezuela and while we are sad to see Randy go, this is part of our responsibility as an ABA team - to assist players to move into the NBA or assist them to obtain lucrative contracts in other countries. Randy has been a tremendous asset not only on the court but in bringing national attention to the Nighthawks and the ABA. He will be missed, but we will continue to be a dominant force in the league."
Gill is the third Maryland Nighthawk player to pen a lucrative deal with an overseas team. Last season, Curtis Yarbrough was signed to play in the top division in Denmark and this fall, forward Jason Williams was the top draft pick by Henan and now is starring in the Chinese Basketball League.
"We are also pleased to announce that we have signed former Georgetown Hoya guard Anthony Perry," added Doyle. "We are very fortunate to be able to sign this former Division I standout and a high school All American. Anthony will bring the team more veteran experience as we make our run for the ABA title." Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
