NIFL Week Six Preview

April 13, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) News Release

A highlight match-up and a chance for some teams to get victory number one in 2006.....here's a preview of Week Six in the National Indoor Football League...........

The Dayton Bulldogs (1-1) will be looking for a second straight home win on Thursday night when the Tennessee Riversharks (1-2) come to the Nutter Center at Wright State University for a 7pm Kick-0ff. Tennessee lost last weekend to the RiverCity Rage, while the Bulldogs come off a division win against the Cincinnati Marshals. It's an Atlantic North division match-up.

The newly expanded Twin City Gators (0-3) will be looking to get a first taste of NIFL victory when the team plays on Friday night against the defending NIFL champion Tri-Cities Fever. The Gators lost a tough game to Beaumont last week, while The Fever (2-1) come off a huge win over the Big Sky Thunder. It's a 7:05pm start at the Three Rivers Coliseum in Kennewick, Washington.

The weekend's best match-up may be at Savvis Center in St. Louis, where the undefeated RiverCity Rage (3-0) entertains Billings (3-1) in a 7pm game. Both teams are loaded with offensive firepower. The Rage are second in scoring in the NIFL, averaging 62.7 points per game. Billings is second in defense, giving up only 19 points per game in 2006.

The NIFL Week Five Defensive Player of the Week, Shane Winchester, leads the Beaumont Drillers (3-1) into the Casper Events Center to take on the Wyoming Cavalry (2-2) in a 7pm contest on Friday night. Cavalry Head Coach Shannon Moore will be getting the team charged up after a tough loss last week to the Rapid City team. The Drillers beat the Twin City Gators last Saturday night in Beaumont.

The Katy Copperheads (3-2) used a one-two running attack of Kersey Henderson and Bam Morris to pull down the Arkansas Stars last weekend. Coach Bryan Blake and his team will need that and more to overtake the undefeated Rapid City Flying Aces (4-0) when the two teams get together on Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Aces will be tough at home. The team leads the NIFL in both Scoring Offense and Scoring Defense.

In an Atlantic East division match-up, another team puts an undefeated record on the line this weekend. The Fayetteville Guard (3-0), the number one team in the newly formed NIFL Massey Ratings, will head to the Greensboro Coliseum to play the Greensboro Revolution. The expansion Revolution (1-3) won it's opening game at home, then lost three straight. Greensboro is looking for that home field magic on Saturday night at 7:30pm.

One NIFL team will get victory number one this weekend when the Arkansas Stars (0-3) head to St. Joseph, Missouri to battle the Lincoln Capitals at the St. Joseph Civic Center. The Caps have been relocated to Missouri for the remainder of the 2006 season and will return to Lincoln next year. Like the Stars, Lincoln is winless (0-3) and one team's misery will finally come to an end when the teams meet in a Saturday, 7pm Kick-Off.

The Cincinnati Marshals (1-2) split a two game series with Dayton, winning at home and then losing to the Bulldogs last week on the road. The Marshals now head to Montana to tangle with the Big Sky Thunder (0-4) in a 7pm game at the Valley Ice Garden. It's the first home game for Big Sky after four road losses.

The Florida Frenzy (0-3) head north to take on the Montgomery Maulers (1-2) in a 7pm contest at the Garrett Coliseum. The Frenzy is the tenth rated team in the NIFL Massey Ratings, while Montgomery comes in at number eleven. The Maulers lost a heartbreaker to Lakeland last week, and Florida is coming off a tough loss to Fayetteville.

The expansion Charleston Sandsharks (2-0) have found life in the NIFL a bit down and dirty thus far, but undefeated, have survived. The Sharks head south to hook up with the Osceola Outlaws (2-1) in a 7pm game at the Silver Spurs Arena. The Outlaws feature running back Odest Shannon and are the number three rated team in the NIFL Massey Ratings. Charleston beat Greensboro last weekend and looks to remain the only NIFL expansion team undefeated in 2006.

And finally, the Delray Beach Tennis Center is ready to host NIFL football this weekend, after some turf problems forced cancellation of a game last week. The host West Palm Beach Phantoms (0-2) will have a tough go when the undefeated Lakeland Thunderbolts (4-0) head into town on Saturday night. The Thunderbolts are led by running back Perry Tisdale, who found the end zone five times last weekend against Montgomery. The Phantoms need win number one to notch-up in the Atlantic South division. Kick-off is slated for 7pm.
