NIFL Pulls Myrtle Beach Franchise
April 5, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA--The National Indoor Football League announced today that the Myrtle Beach Stingrays franchise has been pulled for failure to meet financial obligations to the league.
The Stingrays roster has been frozen by the NIFL, and players will be disbursed throughout the league, with priority given to the Greenville RiverHawks franchise.
"Myrtle Beach is a team that has serious financial obligations owed to the league," NIFL President Carolyn Shiver said. "The majority of our teams have strong ownership, strong support, and are committed to playing this season. Myrtle Beach has shown us that they cannot meet the basic requirements asked of them, so it is with great disappointment we have to pull their team franchise today."
While all home games will not take place in Myrtle Beach, the team's road schedule will go on as planned. The Greenville RiverHawks will not only fill their road game slate, but also pull up the slack and travel to all previously scheduled Myrtle Beach opponents.
Myrtle Beach players are asked to contact Andrew Haines with the Greenville RiverHawks at 717-278-8200.
Season ticket holders or corporate sponsors requesting a refund are asked to contact the Myrtle Beach Stingrays Office / Palmetto Entertainment Group at 843-626-7277.
