LAFAYETTE, LAâThe National Indoor Football League is pleased to announce Players of the Week from Week 2 action around the league as follows:
Pacific Conference:
Verna Owens - Running Back, Billings Outlaws
Pacific Conference Offensive Player of the Week
Outlaws running back Verna Owens was a key force over the weekend as Billings defeated the Black Hills Red Dogs, 66-27 in Montana. Owens, a 5-foot-11, 226-pound native of Turlock, California, had an outstanding game, rushing for 35-yards on 10 carries and scoring five rushing touchdowns on the night.
Demetrius Ross - Defensive Back, Tri-City Diesel
Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Tri-City Diesel defensive back Demetrius Ross helped lead his team to a 58-42 win over the Oklahoma Crude this past weekend. Ross, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound native of Marion, Ohio, wrapped up three unassisted tackles and three assisted tackles, including one tackle for a loss, along with two interceptions against the Crude. He also ran back a 46-yard kick return for a touchdown, giving the Diesel a 1-0 start to the 2004 season.
Pete Garces - Kicker, Utah Warriors
Pacific Conference Special Teams Player of the Week
Warriors kicker Pete Garces was solid yet again this week, as he kicked a perfect game against the Sioux Falls Storm. Garces was 2/2 on field goal attempts, including completing a 32 and 49-yarder. Garces was also 5/5 on point after attempts on the night as Utah went on to defeat the Storm, 51-49.

Justin Peery - Quarterback, Show Me Believers
Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week
In a thriller of a game, with six seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter, Show Me quarterback Justin Peery threw a 22-yard touchdown to send the game into overtime against the Lexington Horsemen. Though the Show Me Believers lost a heartbreaker in double overtime, 38-37, quarterback Justin Peery played an outstanding game. Peery completed 16 of 27 passes for 218-yards and two touchdowns. Peery also rushed 11 times for 48-yards, scoring two touchdowns of his own.
Pig Prather - Defensive Back, Tupelo FireAnts
Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week
FireAnts defensive back Pig Prather had another impressive game with the âAnts, as he wrapped up 10 solo tackles and three assisted tackles against the Beaumont Drillers over the weekend. Prather, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound native of Falkner, Mississippi, anchored the âAnts defensive efforts as they defeated the Drillers 47-24 in Tupelo.
Justin Hutton - Kicker, Lexington Horsemen
Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week
Lexington Horsemen kicker Justin Hutton came away with the winning kick in double overtime as they defeated the Show Me Believers 38-37 at Rupp Arena. Hutton, a native of Hammond, Indiana, was a perfect 5/5 on extra point attempts, including the game winner in double overtime.
