Tulsa Shock News Release
TULSA, Okla. (May 12, 2011) - After an accomplished seven year career that began with the Minnesota Lynx in 2004 and ended with the Tulsa Shock in 2010, Nicole Ohlde has announced her retirement from the WNBA but still plans on playing a couple more seasons overseas.
"This is a decision I put a lot of thought into," Ohlde said. "I have had a wonderful seven years playing in the WNBA and although it was a difficult decision for me I knew it was the right one. My body the past couple years has felt worn down so I felt like it was time that I took a break. I'm looking forward to having the summer to rest up and finally spend some time with my family."
The Shock acquired Ohlde in a mid-season trade with the Phoenix Mercury along with a 2011 First Round pick, which ended up being Stanford's Kayla Pedersen, in exchange for Kara Braxton. In 12 games with the Shock, Ohlde started nine, averaging 7.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in 25.1 minutes.
Ohlde was selected sixth overall out of Kansas State by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2004 WNBA Draft. She played in Minnesota for five seasons, statistically having her best year in 2007 when she averaged 11.5 points and 6.1 rebounds.
Ohlde was a member of the 2009 Phoenix Mercury Championship team.
