AKRON, OH-The Akron Racers announced today that former UCLA All-American shortstop, Nicole Odom has been named the fifth Racers IMPACT honoree. As a part of the Akron Racers 15th Season of Play celebration, 30 Akron alumni are being honored for their profound impact on the history of the oldest existing professional fastpitch franchise.

"Odie's range and rocket arm in the hole was amazing to watch," recalled GM Joey Arrietta. "She and former Wahoo teammate, Tobin Echo-Hawk rank as probably one of the best, if not the best, middle infield combination in Racers history."

After spending her rookie season with the Orlando Wahoos, in 1998, Odom became part of the inaugural Racers team in the 1999. Immediately, Odom took charge of the Racers infield after anchoring the 1998 WPF Championship Team.

Odom was named a WPSL All-Star in 1999, posting 48 hits for the Racers. That first season, Odom hit for a .264 average, with five doubles, 16 runs and 19 RBI in 1999. Nicole spent just two seasons with the Racers, before the league suspended play in 2001. It was a pre-mature ending to Odom's career with the Racers. She, however, set the standard for the Racers which included a will to win and a blue collar work ethic that continues today, 15 seasons later.

Odom and the other 29 IMPACT honorees will be recognized this summer, culminating in a weekend-long celebration July 15-17 when the Racers welcome the Dallas Charge to Firestone Stadium for a three-game series. The Racers will welcome back many of their former players to celebrate the history of the franchise, culminating in the pre-game presentation of the 30 IMPACT honorees on July 16th. Each honoree will receive a special commemorative jersey bearing their name and number.
