BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Surge and the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced that Nick Klaren of the Mississippi Surge has been named the Sher-Wood SPHL Players of the Week for December 14-December 20.

Klaren scored four goals, including two overtime game-winners, and added an assist in three games as the Surge captured a pair of wins over league-leading Huntsville. On Thursday, December 17, Klaren netted both the game-tying and game-winning goals in Mississippi's 3-2 overtime win over Huntsville. His goal with a little over 11 minutes remaining in the third period tied the game at two and set the stage for his overtime heroics as Klaren put in the game-winner with just 53 seconds remaining.

The North St. Paul, MN native contributed an assist in the Surge's 5-4 loss to Pensacola on Friday, before coming back to haunt the Havoc again the next night. After Klaren got the Surge on the board in the second period, Mississippi tied the game on a goal by Matthew Larke with the goaltender pulled for an extra attacker and just 22 seconds left in regulation. In overtime, Klaren grabbed the spotlight again when he netted the game-winner, this time with just 41 seconds remaining in the extra period, to give Mississippi the 3-2 win.
