Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Arnold Miller, who was with the Cleveland Browns for three seasons, has signed a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.

Miller (6-foot-3, 275 pounds) played in nine games for the Browns as a rookie in 1999, finishing with 13 tackles. In his first NFL game on Sept. 12, 1999, he made two solo tackles versus the Pittsburgh Steelers from his right defensive end spot and blocked an extra point. Miller registered the first sack of his NFL career on Oct. 24, 1999, bringing down St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner.

In his second year with Cleveland, Miller appeared in 13 games and made nine tackles on defense and chipped in with seven stops on special teams. He also was credited with 1.5 sacks for losses of 11.5 yards in 2000.

After injuring his foot in training camp, Miller spent the entire 2001 season on the Browns' injured reserve list.

"When we worked Arnold out, we were very impressed," said Hodgkiss, who led the Avengers to an 11-5 record and No. 4 playoff seed last season in his second year with the club. "He is the prototypical NFL pass rushing defensive end with outstanding speed and quickness. He could be a 'difference maker' on the defensive side of the ball for us, rushing the quarterback."

Miller was a four-year letterman and two-year starter at Louisiana State University. In his 44-game Tiger career, he posted 91 tackles, 23 stops for losses (95 yards), 11 quarterback sacks (69 yards) and three forced fumbles. As a senior in 1998, he started 11 games at outside linebacker and finished with 33 tackles, 10 stops for losses and five sacks. Miller started 10 times at defensive end as a junior and concluded the 1997 season by being named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of a 27-9 Independence Bowl victory over Notre Dame.

He earned his degree in kinesiology from LSU by completing his final course at Kent State University.

Miller was active in the Cleveland community while with the Browns, donating his time to the United Way's Hometown Huddle program, building a home with Habitat For Humanity, participating in the Cleveland Browns Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway and spending time with children by visiting Ronald McDonald House and Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital.

Born on Jan. 3, 1975, in New Orleans, Miller attended George Washington Carver High School.

He and his wife, Cordia, have a son, Wellington. They currently reside in Baton Rouge, La. Miller, who has many exotic pets, aspires to someday own a pet store.

Avenger season tickets for the 2004 campaign, which begins on Feb. 8, are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 1-888-AVENGERS or online at www.laavengers.com.
