News Philadelphia Wings Open 2013 Season with 13-8 Win

The Philadelphia Wings opened their 27th National Lacrosse League (NLL) season with a physical 13-8 victory over the Buffalo Bandits at Wells Fargo Center Friday night.

In front of a raucous home crowd, the Wings set the tone early with a trio of first-quarter goals and never trailed in the home opener, jumping out to a 1-0 record to start the 2013 NLL season. While second-year forward Kevin Crowley paced the team with four goals and Brandon Miller tallied 43 saves, several new faces contributed in their Wings debuts.

Forward Kevin Buchannan, acquired from the Bandits this offseason, scored three goals and added three assists in his Philadelphia debut, while new Wing Jordan Hall tallied six assists and rookie forward Ethan Farrell scored two goals in his first NLL contest.

The Bandits were led by Shawn Williams and Tracey Kelusky with three points apiece.

Coming off a 2012 season which saw the Wings clinch their first playoff berth since 2009, Philadelphia enters this season in pursuit of their league-record seventh NLL title.

The Wings will travel to Toronto next weekend for their first road game of the season and will return to Wells Fargo Center to play the Calgary Roughnecks on Sunday, January 27.
