Orange County Breakers News Release

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (March 15, 2011) - With the first overall pick in the World TeamTennis Roster Player draft, the Newport Beach Breakers selected Anne Keothavong, Great Britain's No. 2 ranked singles player, who will make her WTT debut this July.

Since turning pro in 2001, Keothavong has won 17 ITF singles titles and 5 ITF doubles titles in her career. In February 2009, she reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 48 and has been a long-standing Fed Cup player for Britain during the past decade. Earlier this year, she qualified for the Australian Open and made second round appearances at both Memphis and Auckland.

With their second pick, Newport Beach opted to bring back California native Lester Cook who was their men's singles player in 2010. In the third round, the Breakers selected Travis Rettenmaier, another Californian with two years of previous WTT experience. In the fourth round, Newport Beach protected the rights to Canadian player Marie-Eve Pelletier, who played for the team in 2009 and 2010.

After selecting tennis legend Pete Sampras in last month's Marquee Player Draft, the addition of Keothavong, Cook, Rettenmaier and Pelletier bolstered the outlook of Breakers' Coach Trevor Kronemann for the 2011 season.

"We are looking forward to having Anne's great talent and personality here in Newport Beach as we chase the King Trophy in 2011," said Kronemann. "Anne's team experience as a Fed Cup Player for England will be a great complement to the World TeamTennis experience that Marie-Eve Pelletier brings to the Breakers. This will give us a formidable duo that, along with the rest of our team, is capable of leading us to the Championships."

With their season schedule set, the Breakers will play 14 regular season matches between July 4 and 21, including seven home matches at The Tennis Club Newport Beach (1602 E. Pacific Coast Highway, Newport Beach, Calif. 92660).

Visiting marquee players this summer including Lindsay Davenport (St. Louis Aces) on July 5; Sam Querrey (Washington Kastles) on July 11, and the world's top-ranked doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan (Kansas City Explorers) on July 13. Tickets for the 2011 season will go on sale later this month. For tickets, sponsorship and more information, visit www.NewportBeachBreakers.com or call Tracy Harris at (949) 660-1001. The Breakers' primary beneficiary is the Hoag Hospital Foundation.
