Newark Bears News Release

The Newark Bears defeated the Camden Riversharks 9-6 to win their three game series at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in downtown Newark, NJ.

For the third straight game, the Bears banged out double digits hits. Newark batted around in the first to put five runs on the board, including an RBI double off the bat of catcher Salomon Manriquez who went 3-4 and an RBI single from Carl Loadenthal, who went 3-4 as well.

Former New York Yankee D'Angelo Jiminez crushed a two run homer in the eighth inning to extend the Bears lead over the Sharks.

Charlton Jimerson swiped three bases and went 1-4 to stretch his hitting streak to twelve games and continues to lead the Atlantic League in batting and slugging.

Camden put two runs on the board in the second inning including a solo home run off the bat of Garrett Guzman. An RBI double from Ron Fenwick in the ninth helped the Riversharks tack on three runs late in the match, but Newark right hander Tracy Thorpe untimely held off Camden to end the game in the top of the ninth inning.

Victor Santos notched his first win as a Newark Bear. Santos, who has over seven years of experience in the majors, tossed five and one-third innings, giving up just five hits, striking out two. After six innings of work, Kalen Geargart recorded the loss, bringing his record to 1-1.

With their third win in a row, the Bears second half of the season record improves to 29-25 and Camden's falls to 24-31.
