Jersey Express News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA CEO, today announced that Newark, New Jersey will begin playing when the professional basketball league starts in November. According to Newman, "We are closing out expansion for the upcoming season and will be announcing quite a few additions in the next several weeks. We are extremely pleased to have Newark in the league - and especially the wonderful ownership group that will be putting this organization and team together."
The team will be co-owned by Marsha Blount and Jacqueline Halyard, two successful businesswomen with a passion for basketball. The team will be named the NEWARK EXPRESS. Mrs. Blount added, "We have been discussing putting a team in Newark with Mr. Newman for several months now and we're happy that we've finalized the process. There is so much history and talent in the City of Newark and we are excited to be a part of this Renaissance City."
Mrs. Halyard added, "We have already established Essex County Colleges Arena as our venue and are fortunate to be working with such a knowledgeable professional as Mr. Melvin Knight, Athletic Director. Mr. Knight has been a tremendous help in securing the playing venue so early in the process - one of the key ingredients to a successful operation."
The Newark Express is looking for qualified applicants to work in its Marketing Department. A press conference will be scheduled and announced shortly. For sponsorship or other information, please contact Marsha Blount at 917 562 7815 or email abanewark@msn.com or for employment opportunities contact Jacqueline Halyard at newarkexpress@msn.com or visit www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
