Newark, NJ. On Tuesday, April 11th, ESPN2's "2 Live Stews" featured a blazin' hot spot on the Newark Express. Reported by Drew Frazier, the segment was designed around the recent activities of former New Jersey Nets star Daryl Dawkins and includes interviews with team owners Jacqueline Halyard and Marsha Blount, and future All-Star point guard Shaheen Holloway.
Coach Dawkins expressed sincere excitement at the chance to get back into the ABA, working for an organization owned by two intelligent black women and help guide a brand new team into the 2nd round of the playoffs in its inaugual season. When asked why the ABA, co-owner Marsha Blount said "because we couldn't acquire an NBA franchise." The result, according to co-owner Jacqueline Halyard "is a professional executed basketball season by women who know what they are doing."
If this segment is any indication, the Express will truly be the team to watch in the upcoming 2006-2007 ABA season. With their first try-out for next season already scheduled, recent sightings on Comcast cable television and an upcoming season-long documentary produced by Bombo Sports & Entertainment, the Express are poised for great success in the future.
